Warm German Potato Salad
Warm German Potato Salad is a comforting dish bursting with flavor. Unlike its cold counterpart, this version features tender potatoes coated in a warm, tangy dressing. It’s a perfect side dish for grilled meats or sausages, or a hearty meal on its own. Let’s get started!
Ingredients:
- 1.5 pounds red potatoes, scrubbed and quartered
- 6 slices bacon, chopped
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup white vinegar
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon celery seed
- Fresh parsley, for garnish
Cooking Guide:
- Cook the potatoes: Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender but still firm, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- Fry the bacon: In a large skillet, cook the bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon, crumble, and set aside.
- Make the dressing: In the same skillet, sauté the onion until softened. Add vinegar, water, sugar, salt, pepper, and celery seed. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 2 minutes.
- Combine ingredients: Add the cooked potatoes and half of the crumbled bacon to the skillet with the dressing. Toss to coat evenly.
- Serve: Garnish with the remaining bacon and fresh parsley. Serve warm.
Tips:
- For extra flavor, use bacon fat instead of oil to sauté the onion.
- You can adjust the vinegar and sugar amounts to taste.
- For a thicker dressing, add a tablespoon of cornstarch mixed with a little water before boiling the dressing.
- This potato salad is best served immediately but can be reheated gently.
- Experiment with different herbs like dill or chives for added flavor.
