Oven Toasted Garlic Herb Cheese Ravioli
This recipe transforms store-bought ravioli into a crispy, flavorful appetizer or light meal.
Ingredients:
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- ½ cup plain breadcrumbs
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 clove garlic, grated
- 1 tablespoon dried basil
- 1 tablespoon dried oregano
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1 teaspoon dried)
- 2 teaspoons chopped fresh sage (or ½ teaspoon dried)
- 1 teaspoon crushed fennel seed (optional)
- Pinch of crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- Kosher salt and black pepper
- 1 pound cheese ravioli
- Olive oil, for drizzling
- Marinara sauce, warmed for serving
Cooking Guide:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet with olive oil.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the beaten eggs.
- In a separate bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, grated garlic, dried basil, oregano, thyme, sage, fennel seed (if using), red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Toss well to create an even crumb mixture.
- Dip each ravioli individually into the beaten egg, coating it completely.
- Immediately dredge the ravioli through the breadcrumb mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated.
- Arrange the coated ravioli in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Drizzle each ravioli lightly with olive oil.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
Tips:
- For added flavor, use a variety of cheeses in your breadcrumb mixture, such as shredded mozzarella or Asiago.
- Don’t overcrowd the baking sheet. Bake the ravioli in batches if needed to ensure even crisping.
- To test for doneness, gently nudge a ravioli with a spatula. If it moves easily without sticking to the pan, it’s ready.
- If you prefer a softer center, reduce the baking time by 2 minutes.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in a skillet with a little olive oil until crispy.
- For a vegetarian main course, serve the toasted ravioli over a bed of marinara sauce and roasted vegetables.
