Old Bay Shrimp Sausage Skillet
This quick and flavorful skillet dish is perfect for a busy weeknight dinner. The combination of juicy shrimp, savory sausage, and a kick of Old Bay seasoning creates a satisfying meal.
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound andouille sausage, sliced into thin rounds
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced into thin strips
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons Old Bay seasoning
- 1/2 cup dry white wine (optional)
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- Cooked rice or pasta, for serving (optional)
Cooking Guide:
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sausage and cook until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- Add the bell pepper and onion to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for an additional minute, until fragrant.
- Push the vegetables to the side of the pan and add the shrimp. Season with Old Bay seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook the shrimp for 2-3 minutes per side, or until opaque and cooked through.
- (Optional) Pour in the white wine and bring to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Cook until the wine is reduced by half, about 2 minutes.
- Add the cooked sausage back to the pan and toss to combine. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve immediately over cooked rice or pasta, if desired.
Tips:
- For a spicier dish, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the shrimp along with the Old Bay seasoning.
- If you don’t have white wine, you can substitute chicken broth.
- You can use any type of sausage you like in this recipe. Andouille sausage is a classic Cajun choice, but smoked sausage or Italian sausage would also work well.
- Pre-cooked shrimp can be used to save time. Just thaw the shrimp and add them to the pan in step 3.
- For a more complete meal, add your favorite vegetables to the skillet along with the bell pepper and onion. Broccoli, asparagus, or zucchini would all be delicious additions.
