Classic Jalapeno Poppers with Bacon
These poppers are the perfect appetizer for any party or a satisfying game-day treat.
Ingredients:
- 12 jalapeno peppers (3-4 inches long)
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 12 slices bacon (thin-cut)
- Cooking spray
Cooking Guide:
- Prep the jalapenos: Wash the jalapenos and pat them dry. Halve the peppers lengthwise and carefully remove the seeds and membranes. Wear gloves if you have sensitive skin while handling the peppers. You can also use a spoon to scrape out the insides.
- Make the filling: In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, cheddar cheese, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Using a spoon or electric mixer, beat the mixture until smooth and creamy.
- Assemble the poppers: Fill each jalapeno half with the cheese mixture, making sure not to overstuff them. You can pipe the filling for a neater look (optional).
- Wrap with bacon: Take a slice of bacon and wrap it around each filled jalapeno half, securing it with a toothpick if needed.
- Bake: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup and lightly coat it with cooking spray. Arrange the bacon-wrapped poppers on the baking sheet, leaving some space between them.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Broil for an additional 1-2 minutes for extra crispy bacon (optional).
- Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your delicious jalapeno poppers!
Tips:
- Spice it up! For a spicier kick, leave some of the seeds in the jalapenos. You can also add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the filling.
- Cheese variations: Experiment with different cheeses in the filling. Try pepper jack cheese, Monterey Jack cheese, or even a crumbled blue cheese for a unique flavor.
- Preheat the baking sheet: Preheating the baking sheet ensures the bacon starts crisping up immediately when placed in the oven.
- Even crispier bacon: For an extra crispy bacon experience, you can pre-cook the bacon in a skillet until partially cooked. Then, wrap it around the jalapenos and bake as usual.
- Serving options: Serve your jalapeno poppers with a side of ranch dressing, sour cream, or your favorite dipping sauce.
