Honey Garlic Butter Shrimp and Broccoli
This recipe is a quick and easy weeknight meal that’s bursting with flavor. The honey garlic sauce is sweet, savory, and slightly spicy, and it coats the plump shrimp and tender broccoli perfectly.
Ingredients:
- For the marinade:
- ½ cup honey
- ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 2 tablespoons minced garlic
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- For the shrimp and broccoli:
- 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Cooking Guide:
- Make the marinade: In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, red pepper flakes (if using), and cornstarch.
- Marinate the shrimp: Place the shrimp in a bowl and pour half of the marinade over them. Toss to coat and let marinate for at least 15 minutes, or up to 30 minutes for extra flavor.
- Cook the broccoli: Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the broccoli florets and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until slightly softened and bright green. Remove the broccoli from the pan and set aside.
- Cook the shrimp: Add the butter to the pan and melt it over medium heat. Add the shrimp (discarding the marinade) and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until pink and opaque.
- Thicken the sauce: Pour the remaining marinade into the pan and bring to a simmer. Cook for 1-2 minutes, or until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Assemble and serve: Add the cooked broccoli back to the pan with the shrimp and sauce. Toss to coat everything evenly. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve immediately over rice or noodles.
Tips:
- For extra flavor: Marinate the shrimp for longer. 30 minutes will give the shrimp more intense honey-garlic flavor.
- Don’t overcook the shrimp: Shrimp cooks quickly, so be careful not to overcook them or they will become tough and rubbery.
- Adjust the spice level: If you don’t like spicy food, omit the red pepper flakes. You can also add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes to the finished dish for a little heat.
- Serve with sides: This dish pairs well with rice, noodles, or roasted vegetables.
- Use different vegetables: You can substitute the broccoli with other vegetables like asparagus, snow peas, or bell peppers.
