Easy Calzone Recipe
This recipe is a great way to enjoy a delicious and customizable calzone at home!
Ingredients:
- Refrigerated pizza dough (16 oz package)
- Marinara sauce (your favorite kind)
- Shredded mozzarella cheese (2 cups)
- Pizza toppings of your choice (pepperoni, sausage, vegetables, etc.)
- Melted butter (optional)
- Italian seasoning (optional)
- Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Cooking Guide:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Divide the pizza dough into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a circle about 8-10 inches in diameter.
- Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on one half of each dough circle, leaving a 1-inch border around the edge.
- Add your desired toppings on top of the sauce. Here are some ideas:
- Classic: Pepperoni, sausage, and mozzarella cheese.
- Veggie: Roasted vegetables like peppers, onions, and mushrooms, with ricotta cheese and mozzarella.
- Meaty: Italian sausage, ground beef, and mozzarella cheese.
- Tip: Don’t overload the calzone with fillings, or it will be difficult to seal and may burst during baking.
- Fold the dough over the filling, forming a half-moon shape. Crimp the edges with a fork to seal the calzone.
- Brush the top of the calzone with melted butter (optional) and sprinkle with Italian seasoning and Parmesan cheese (optional).
- Place the calzones on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Let the calzones cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Tips:
- You can use store-bought pizza dough for convenience, but making your own dough is also easy and rewarding.
- If the edges of your dough start to brown too quickly, cover them with foil during baking.
- For a cheesier calzone, brush the inside of the dough with melted butter or olive oil before adding the fillings.
