Delicious Venison Burgers

These juicy venison burgers are packed with flavor and won’t crumble apart like some game burgers can.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground venison
  • ½ pound ground pork (optional, for added fat)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Hamburger buns
  • Your favorite burger toppings (cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles etc.)

Cooking Guide:

  1. Prep: In a large bowl, combine ground venison, pork (if using), Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Using your hands, gently mix the ingredients until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, which can make the burgers tough.
  2. Form Patties: Divide the mixture into four equal portions. Form each portion into a patty that’s slightly larger in diameter than your hamburger bun. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty to help prevent them from puffing up while cooking.
  3. Heat it Up: Preheat your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Brush the patties with olive oil.
  4. Grill Time: Place the patties on the grill and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until desired doneness. (An internal temperature of 160°F for medium-rare is recommended).
  5. Cheese Time (Optional): If adding cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of cooking to allow it to melt.
  6. Toast those Buns: While the burgers are cooking, toast your hamburger buns on the grill or in a toaster.
  7. Assemble and Enjoy! Place your cooked burger patty on the toasted bun and add your favorite toppings. Devour your delicious venison burger!

Tips:

  • For extra moisture: Soak your breadcrumbs in a splash of milk or broth for a few minutes before adding them to the meat mixture.
  • Don’t overwork the meat: This is key to preventing dry burgers. Mix the ingredients just until combined.
  • Let it rest: After forming your patties, let them rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before cooking. This helps them firm up and hold their shape better.
  • Internal Temperature: Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of your burgers for safe consumption.
  • Get creative with toppings: Don’t limit yourself to classic burger toppings. Try adding crumbled blue cheese, caramelized onions, or even a fried egg!
