Old Bay Shrimp Sausage Skillet

This quick and flavorful skillet dish is perfect for a busy weeknight dinner. The combination of juicy shrimp, savory sausage, and a kick of Old Bay seasoning creates a satisfying meal.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound andouille sausage, sliced into thin rounds
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced into thin strips
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons Old Bay seasoning
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Cooked rice or pasta, for serving (optional)

Cooking Guide:

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sausage and cook until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  2. Add the bell pepper and onion to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for an additional minute, until fragrant.
  3. Push the vegetables to the side of the pan and add the shrimp. Season with Old Bay seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook the shrimp for 2-3 minutes per side, or until opaque and cooked through.
  4. (Optional) Pour in the white wine and bring to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Cook until the wine is reduced by half, about 2 minutes.
  5. Add the cooked sausage back to the pan and toss to combine. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve immediately over cooked rice or pasta, if desired.

Tips:

  • For a spicier dish, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the shrimp along with the Old Bay seasoning.
  • If you don’t have white wine, you can substitute chicken broth.
  • You can use any type of sausage you like in this recipe. Andouille sausage is a classic Cajun choice, but smoked sausage or Italian sausage would also work well.
  • Pre-cooked shrimp can be used to save time. Just thaw the shrimp and add them to the pan in step 3.
  • For a more complete meal, add your favorite vegetables to the skillet along with the bell pepper and onion. Broccoli, asparagus, or zucchini would all be delicious additions.
