Homemade Salmon Burgers
These delicious salmon burgers are a lighter and healthier take on the classic burger. Packed with flavor and easy to make, they’re perfect for a quick weeknight meal.
Ingredients:
- 1 pound salmon fillets, skin and pin bones removed
- 1/4 cup chopped red onion
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Hamburger buns (optional)
- Cooking oil
Cooking Guide:
- Prepare the salmon: In a large bowl, using a fork, gently flake the salmon into bite-sized pieces. Be careful not to overwork the salmon, as this can make the burgers tough.
- Mix the burger ingredients: Add the red onion, dill, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to the salmon. Mix gently until just combined.
- Form the patties: Divide the salmon mixture into 4 equal portions. Gently form each portion into a patty that’s slightly wider than your hamburger bun.
- Cook the burgers: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add a drizzle of cooking oil. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the salmon patties to the pan. Cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until the burgers are golden brown and cooked through. Be careful not to overcook the salmon, as it can become dry.
- Assemble and serve: Toast the hamburger buns if desired. Place the cooked salmon patties on the buns and add your favorite toppings like lettuce, tomato, avocado, cheese, or tartar sauce. Enjoy!
Tips:
- For a richer flavor, use mayonnaise made with olive oil.
- If the mixture seems too loose, add 1-2 tablespoons of breadcrumbs to help bind the burgers together.
- Wet your hands slightly before forming the patties to prevent sticking.
- Don’t press down on the burgers while they cook, as this can squeeze out the juices and make them dry.
- Salmon burgers can also be baked in the oven. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the salmon patties on the baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until cooked through.
- Leftover salmon burgers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
