Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes Recipe

This recipe combines the classic flavors of a Philly cheesesteak with the comfort of a sloppy joe. The result is a delicious and satisfying meal that is perfect for a weeknight dinner or a weekend gathering.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 cup of sliced bell peppers
  • 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 4 slices of cheese (such as provolone or cheddar)
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Optional toppings: diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, sliced jalapenos

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks.
  2. Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook until the onion is translucent.
  3. Add the sliced bell peppers to the skillet and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  4. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper.
  5. Reduce heat to low and simmer the mixture for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Split the hamburger buns in half and toast them in the oven or under the broiler.
  7. Assemble the sloppy joes by spooning the meat mixture onto the buns and topping with a slice of cheese.
  8. Place the sloppy joes under the broiler for a few seconds to melt the cheese.
  9. Remove the sloppy joes from the oven and top with optional toppings such as diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, or sliced jalapenos.
  10. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Tips

To make this recipe even more authentic, use thinly sliced ribeye or top round instead of ground beef. You can also add some sautéed mushrooms or diced ham to the mixture for added flavor.

If you want to make the recipe more substantial, serve the sloppy joes with a side of crispy fries or a green salad. You can also offer a variety of toppings, such as diced onions or sliced hot peppers, to let everyone customize their own sloppy joe.
