Lettuce Wrapped BLT Burgers

These juicy burgers are bursting with classic BLT flavors and wrapped in crisp lettuce leaves for a satisfying low-carb option.

Ingredients:

  • For the Burgers:
    • 1 pound ground beef (or turkey, chicken, or a blend)
    • 1/2 red onion, finely minced
    • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
    • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
    • 1 head romaine lettuce, leaves separated and washed
  • For the BLT Toppings:
    • 6 slices bacon, cooked crispy
    • 1 tomato, thinly sliced
    • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced (optional)
    • Dill pickles, sliced
    • Mayonnaise
    • Ketchup
    • Dijon mustard (optional)

Cooking Guide:

  1. Make the Burgers: In a large bowl, combine ground meat, red onion, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix gently with your hands until just combined. Don’t overmix, or the burgers will be tough.
  2. Form the burger mixture into 4 equal patties.
  3. Heat a grill pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the burger patties and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until desired doneness.
  4. Assemble the Lettuce Wraps: While the burgers cook, spread a thin layer of mayonnaise and ketchup (or your favorite burger sauce) on the romaine lettuce leaves.
  5. Top each lettuce wrap with a cooked burger patty, crispy bacon, tomato slices, red onion (if using), and dill pickles.
  6. Drizzle with Dijon mustard (optional) and serve immediately.

Tips:

  • For Sturdier Lettuce Wraps: Use two romaine lettuce leaves per burger, overlapping them slightly in the center for added stability.
  • Bun Alternatives: If you’re not strict on low-carb, try wrapping your burger in large portobello mushroom caps, pre-cooked and seasoned.
  • Spice it Up: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a crumbled jalapeno to the burger mixture for a kick.
  • Bacon Variations: Experiment with different flavored bacons like maple bacon or peppered bacon for a unique twist.
  • Make it Ahead: Cook and cool the burger patties in advance. Assemble the lettuce wraps when ready to serve.
