Easy Korean Beef Bulgogi
Bulgogi is a classic Korean dish featuring tender, marinated beef slices grilled to perfection. This recipe offers a simplified yet flavorful version that’s perfect for a weeknight dinner or a casual gathering.
Ingredients:
- 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
- 1 green onion, thinly sliced
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
Cooking Guide:
- Prepare the marinade: In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, sesame oil, and ginger.
- Marinate the beef: Place the sliced beef in a large zip-top bag, pour in the marinade, and seal. Marinate for at least 30 minutes, or preferably overnight for maximum flavor.
- Grill or pan-fry: Preheat a grill or large skillet over medium-high heat. Remove the beef from the marinade (reserve the marinade) and cook until browned and tender, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Add the marinade: Pour the reserved marinade into the hot grill or skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes to reduce and thicken.
- Serve: Toss the cooked beef in the thickened marinade, then sprinkle with sliced onion and green onion. Garnish with sesame seeds and serve immediately.
Tips:
- For extra flavor, use Korean gochujang (red pepper paste) in the marinade.
- Serve bulgogi with steamed rice, lettuce wraps, or as a topping for bibimbap.
- Marinating the beef overnight will result in a more tender and flavorful dish.
- You can also use a different cut of beef, such as ribeye or sirloin, but be sure to slice it thinly.
- To prevent the beef from drying out, cook it quickly over high heat.
