Tandoori Chicken Kebabs

Tandoori chicken kebabs are a classic Indian dish, featuring tender, marinated chicken cooked to perfection on skewers. The vibrant red color and aromatic spices create a truly unforgettable flavor experience. These kebabs are perfect for a summer barbecue or as a main course for a weeknight dinner.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Wooden skewers (soaked in water for 30 minutes)

Cooking Guide:

  1. Prepare the marinade: In a large bowl, combine yogurt, ginger, garlic, cumin, coriander, garam masala, turmeric, chili powder, cayenne pepper, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  2. Marinate the chicken: Add the chicken cubes to the marinade and toss to coat evenly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight for maximum flavor.
  3. Assemble the kebabs: Thread the marinated chicken cubes onto the soaked wooden skewers.
  4. Grill the kebabs: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Grill the kebabs for 8-10 minutes per side, or until cooked through and golden brown.

Tips:

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of saffron to the marinade.
  • Serve with naan bread, raita, and a refreshing salad for a complete meal.
  • To prevent the kebabs from sticking to the grill, lightly oil the skewers before grilling.
  • For a smoky flavor, grill the kebabs over indirect heat.
