Easy Surf and Turf
This recipe is a breeze to prepare for a satisfying and impressive dinner.
Ingredients:
- For the Steak:
- 2 (6 oz) filet mignon steaks
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon steak seasoning
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- For the Shrimp:
- 12 large shrimp, peeled and deveined (tails on or off, your preference)
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1/4 cup dry white wine (or chicken broth)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Cooking Guide:
- Prep: Pat the steaks and shrimp dry with paper towels. Season the steaks generously with steak seasoning, salt, and pepper. In a separate bowl, toss the shrimp with paprika, cayenne pepper (if using), and a pinch of salt.
- Cook the Steak: Heat olive oil in a large cast-iron skillet or heavy-bottomed pan over medium-high heat. Sear the steaks for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness is reached. Transfer the steaks to a plate and tent with foil to keep warm.
- Cook the Shrimp: Reduce heat to medium and melt butter in the same pan. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds, until fragrant. Add the shrimp and cook for 1-2 minutes per side, or until pink and cooked through.
- Deglaze the Pan (optional): Pour in the white wine (or chicken broth) and lemon juice, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Let the sauce simmer for 1-2 minutes, until slightly reduced.
- Serve: Plate the steaks and spoon the shrimp and pan sauce over them. Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired.
Tips:
- For a richer sauce, add a splash of heavy cream along with the white wine or chicken broth.
- Don’t overcrowd the pan when cooking the shrimp. Cook them in batches if necessary to ensure even cooking.
- If you don’t have steak seasoning, you can create your own by combining garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and black pepper.
- This recipe is easily customizable. You can use different cuts of steak, such as New York strip or ribeye. You can also substitute the shrimp with scallops, lobster tails, or another type of seafood you prefer.
- Serve this surf and turf with your favorite sides, such as roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or rice.
