Easy Beef Stir Fry Recipe
This is a quick and flavorful stir-fry recipe that’s perfect for a weeknight meal.
Ingredients:
- 1 pound flank steak or sirloin steak, thinly sliced against the grain
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 1 onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup broccoli florets
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- Cooked rice or noodles, for serving
Cooking Guide:
- Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce and cornstarch. Add the sliced beef and toss to coat. Marinate for at least 15 minutes, or up to 30 minutes for more tender beef.
- Prepare the Vegetables: While the beef marinates, slice the bell peppers, onion, and broccoli florets. Mince the garlic.
- Cook the Beef: Heat the vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over high heat. Add the beef (discarding the marinade) and cook, stirring constantly, until browned on all sides, about 3-4 minutes. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
- Stir-Fry the Vegetables: Add the bell peppers, onion, and broccoli to the pan and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds.
- Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the chicken broth, brown sugar, and sesame oil.
- Combine and Serve: Pour the sauce into the pan with the vegetables. Bring to a simmer and cook for 1 minute. Add the cooked beef back to the pan and toss to coat. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve immediately over cooked rice or noodles.
Tips:
- Thinly slice the beef: This ensures the beef cooks quickly and stays tender.
- Marinating the beef: Marinating helps tenderize the beef and allows it to absorb flavor.
- High heat: Stir-fries cook best over high heat. This ensures the vegetables get tender-crisp and not soggy.
- Cook in batches: Don’t overcrowd the pan when cooking the beef or vegetables. This will lower the cooking temperature and make the vegetables steam instead of sear.
- Substitutions: You can substitute other vegetables for the bell peppers and broccoli, such as snap peas, snow peas, or carrots. You can also use ground beef instead of sliced steak.
- Make it spicy: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce for a touch of heat.
