Baked Honey Glazed Chicken
This recipe creates a flavorful and tender baked chicken with a sweet and sticky honey glaze.
Ingredients:
- For the chicken:
- 4 bone-in, skin-on chicken breasts (or 8 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- For the honey glaze:
- 1/2 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
Cooking Guide:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
- Prepare the chicken: Pat the chicken dry with paper towels. In a bowl, toss the chicken with olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Bake the chicken: Arrange the chicken pieces in the prepared baking dish, skin-side up. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the juices run clear when pierced with a fork.
- Make the honey glaze: While the chicken bakes, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, Dijon mustard, brown sugar, garlic, and ginger in a small saucepan. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the glaze thickens slightly.
- Glaze the chicken: Remove the chicken from the oven and brush with half of the honey glaze. Broil the chicken for 2-3 minutes, or until the glaze is bubbly and golden brown. Be sure to watch closely to avoid burning.
- Serve: Brush the chicken with the remaining glaze and serve immediately.
Tips:
- You can use boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs for this recipe, but bone-in, skin-on chicken pieces will result in more flavorful and juicy chicken.
- If you don’t have Dijon mustard, you can substitute it with regular yellow mustard.
- For a thicker glaze, whisk together 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water to create a slurry. Add the slurry to the simmering glaze and cook for an additional minute until thickened.
- For a spicier glaze, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the glaze mixture.
- You can also add other ingredients to the glaze, such as pineapple juice, orange juice, or a splash of sriracha.
- Leftover baked honey glazed chicken can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in the oven or microwave until warmed through.
