Easy Calzone Recipe

This recipe is a great way to enjoy a delicious and customizable calzone at home!

Ingredients:

  • Refrigerated pizza dough (16 oz package)
  • Marinara sauce (your favorite kind)
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese (2 cups)
  • Pizza toppings of your choice (pepperoni, sausage, vegetables, etc.)
  • Melted butter (optional)
  • Italian seasoning (optional)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Cooking Guide:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Divide the pizza dough into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a circle about 8-10 inches in diameter.
  3. Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on one half of each dough circle, leaving a 1-inch border around the edge.
  4. Add your desired toppings on top of the sauce. Here are some ideas:
    • Classic: Pepperoni, sausage, and mozzarella cheese.
    • Veggie: Roasted vegetables like peppers, onions, and mushrooms, with ricotta cheese and mozzarella.
    • Meaty: Italian sausage, ground beef, and mozzarella cheese.
    • Tip: Don’t overload the calzone with fillings, or it will be difficult to seal and may burst during baking.
  5. Fold the dough over the filling, forming a half-moon shape. Crimp the edges with a fork to seal the calzone.
  6. Brush the top of the calzone with melted butter (optional) and sprinkle with Italian seasoning and Parmesan cheese (optional).
  7. Place the calzones on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Let the calzones cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Tips:

  • You can use store-bought pizza dough for convenience, but making your own dough is also easy and rewarding.
  • If the edges of your dough start to brown too quickly, cover them with foil during baking.
  • For a cheesier calzone, brush the inside of the dough with melted butter or olive oil before adding the fillings.
  • Get creative with your toppings! You can use any combination of ingredients you like.
  • Leftover calzones can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.

Enjoy your delicious homemade calzone!
