Crispy Cauliflower Pizza Crust
This recipe yields a delicious and satisfying cauliflower pizza crust that’s perfect for any pizza topping combination.
Ingredients:
- 1 head of cauliflower, riced (around 3 cups)
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup grated mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Olive oil (for greasing the pan)
Cooking Guide:
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease it with olive oil.
- Prepare the cauliflower: If you don’t have pre-riced cauliflower, you can rice it yourself using a food processor. Pulse the cauliflower florets until they resemble coarse crumbs.
- Steam or microwave the riced cauliflower: Steaming: Place the riced cauliflower in a steamer basket and steam for 5-7 minutes, or until softened. Microwaving: Place the riced cauliflower in a microwave-safe bowl with a splash of water. Cover the bowl and microwave on high for 3-4 minutes, or until softened. Be sure to drain any excess moisture from the cauliflower.
- Mix the dough: In a large bowl, combine the riced cauliflower, eggs, Parmesan cheese, mozzarella cheese, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well until everything is evenly incorporated.
- Form the crust: Transfer the cauliflower mixture onto the prepared baking sheet. Use your hands to spread the mixture evenly into a circular shape, forming a crust about 10-12 inches in diameter. Make sure the edges are also evenly pressed down.
- Bake the crust: Bake the cauliflower crust for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy around the edges. You can also flip the crust halfway through baking for extra crispness (optional).
- Top and bake again: Once the crust is golden brown and cooked through, remove it from the oven. Add your desired pizza sauce and toppings. Return the pizza to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Tips:
- For extra moisture: If your cauliflower seems too dry after steaming or microwaving, add a tablespoon of almond flour or coconut flour to the dough mixture.
- Cheese variations: You can experiment with different cheeses in the crust. Try a combination of Parmesan, mozzarella, and cheddar cheese for a stronger flavor.
- Spices: Feel free to adjust the spices to your taste. You can add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a bit of heat or Italian seasoning for a more traditional pizza flavor.
- Pre-bake for extra crisp: For an even crispier crust, pre-bake the crust for 10 minutes before adding your toppings.
- Let it cool slightly: Once the pizza is cooked through, let it cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before slicing and serving. This allows the crust to firm up and makes it easier to handle.
Enjoy your delicious and healthy cauliflower pizza crust!
