Pizza Stuffed Peppers
These peppers are a delicious and fun twist on classic pizza! You can customize them with your favorite toppings.
Ingredients:
- 3 large bell peppers (any color)
- 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
- 1/2 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes, undrained
- 1 (15 oz) jar marinara sauce
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Toppings of your choice: pepperoni, sliced olives, mushrooms, chopped ham, crumbled cooked Italian sausage
Cooking Guide:
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Prepare the peppers: Wash the bell peppers and cut them in half lengthwise. Remove the seeds and membranes.
- Brown the meat and vegetables: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef or sausage until browned. Drain any excess grease. Add the onion and garlic, and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Simmer the sauce: Stir in the diced tomatoes, marinara sauce, and Italian seasoning. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Stuff the peppers: Divide the meat sauce mixture evenly among the pepper halves. Top with mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese.
- Bake: Arrange the stuffed peppers in a baking dish. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the peppers are tender and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Add additional toppings (optional): During the last 5 minutes of baking, you can add your favorite pizza toppings like pepperoni, olives, mushrooms, cooked ham, or crumbled cooked Italian sausage.
Tips:
- For a vegetarian option, use lentils or crumbled tofu instead of meat.
- To make the peppers softer, pre-bake them for 10 minutes before stuffing.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or oven until heated through.
- To add a bit of spice, sprinkle with red pepper flakes before serving.
- Get creative with your cheeses! Try a blend of mozzarella, provolone, or cheddar cheese.
